Bucharest Christmas Markets Tour will take you through hidden parts of the central area. You will start with a short introduction in our history and city but also with some stories from 19 Century regarding the winter celebrations to get you into the spirit of the Holidays.
Take in the beautiful lights decorating the city while crossing to our first stop: the first Christmas Market, in University Square. Here we’ll discover how the Christmas tree was brought to our country by the royal family, nut more importantly we will help you create beautiful memories with photographs but also a full round experience of the senses: take in the smell and taste of Christmas in Romania by tasting some mulled wine or apple juice, accompanied by homemade chocolate bar for good measure.
Immerse yourselves in between the cobblestone streets of the Old Town and imagine going back in time 100 years. To help you along we will show you a secret Christmas Flea and Antique Market hidden away behind the massive doors of a forgotten 1900 Palace.
We will walk on Lipscani street one of the most famous street during the medieval period and we will stop at Carturesti Carusel one of the most beautiful bookshops the world! and continue to amaze you by visiting 3 amazing inns from 19 century. In the past , it’s here that the goods and the gifts for Christmas were sold by merchants from Western Europe.
From the Old Town we will change the scenery dramatically with the most famous communist boulevard that will lead us to toward the second Open Air Christmas Market. The 20 minute walk will provide plenty of opportunities for amazing photographs under the flamboyant light decorations. As we approach the Market, before you eyes will unfold the most famous project made by our dictator, Ceausescu, during the communism era. This is the perfect backdrop for our stories about how Christmas was celebrated during the communist period when Santa Claus was abolished and Old Man Frostie ( a communist invention) was put in his place.
Antim Monastery is next, one of the most beautiful and quiet places in town, a place with a history of more than 300 years. Here we will discover the connection that the Romanians still have it with religion and the birth of Jesus what means to them.
The last stop will be to the biggest Christmas Market in Romania. Here some local crafts shops and street food vendors will inspire you with their authentic handmade products, clothes, ceramics, wooden spoons, jewelry, Christmas balls as well as traditional food and drinks. To keep us warm on our exploration we will grab a traditional Christmas sweet and also our second hot drink.
